Dental Cleaning and Brushing Techniques for Children
One of the cornerstones of oral and dental health in children is proper and regular dental hygiene. Proper brushing prevents tooth decay and gum disease, ensuring your child has a healthy smile. At Dehadent, we believe in instilling dental hygiene habits in children at an early age and provide guidance to families.
Why Is Proper Tooth Brushing Important?
Failure to clean teeth regularly and effectively leads to plaque accumulation, tooth decay, and gum problems. Teaching children how to brush their teeth correctly is a critical step in maintaining long-term oral health.
When Should Tooth Brushing Begin?
When teeth begin to emerge in infancy, they should be cleaned with a soft cloth or finger toothbrush. A soft-bristled child's toothbrush and a small amount of fluoride toothpaste should be used from age 2-3.
Effective Tooth Brushing Techniques
1. Brushing Duration and Frequency
It is recommended to brush teeth for at least 2 minutes at least twice a day, especially before bed.
2. Brushing Direction and Movements
The toothbrush should be placed at a 45-degree angle toward the gums and gently brushed in a circular motion. The front, back, and chewing surfaces of the teeth should not be missed.
3. Tongue Cleaning
The tongue should also be brushed gently to prevent bacterial buildup on the tongue.
4. Toothbrush Selection
Toothbrushes with small heads and soft bristles, appropriate for the child's age, should be preferred.
