What is curettage?

Curettage is a deep cleaning procedure used in the treatment of gum diseases. Bacterial plaque, tartar and inflamed tissues accumulated on the root surface of the teeth and in the gum pockets are cleaned with special tools (curette). As a result of this procedure, the gums can reattach to the tooth and the formation of a healthy structure is supported.

In Which Cases Is Curettage Applied?

1. If there is bleeding gums, redness and swelling
2. If gum pockets are deeper than 4 mm
3. If healing is not achieved despite tartar cleaning
4. If periodontitis is at an early or moderate level
5. If gum inflammation has become chronic

How does the treatment process work?

2. Local Anesthesia: Regional anesthesia is applied for a comfortable procedure.
3. Curettage Application: Plaque, tartar and inflamed tissues under the gum are cleaned with special tools.
4. Root Surface Smoothing: The tooth root surface is smoothed to prevent bacterial adhesion.
5. Healing Process and Follow-up: A healing period of 1-2 weeks is required for the gums to reattach to the tooth. Several sessions can be repeated if necessary.
