Sinus Lift (Sinus Lift Operation)

After tooth loss, the bone volume in the upper jaw back region (molars area) may decrease over time. This may prevent sufficient bone height for dental implant applications. In such cases, the Sinus Lift procedure is applied by adding bone under the upper jaw sinus cavity and providing the necessary bone height for the implant. What is Sinus Lift?

The maxillary sinuses, located in the back regions of the upper jaw just above the tooth roots, sag over time after tooth loss and the jawbone becomes thinner. This reduces the bone support required for implant placement. Sinus lift is the process of lifting this sinus cavity up in a controlled manner and placing bone powder (graft) in the resulting space.

Two Different Methods:

 

1. Open (Lateral) Sinus Lift: It is preferred if the bone height is very insufficient. A small window is opened from the lateral jaw wall, the sinus membrane is lifted and the bone graft is placed. The implant is usually placed after 4-6 months.
2. Closed (Transcrestal) Sinus Lift: If the bone height is relatively sufficient, the sinus membrane is also pushed up at the same time during implant placement. It is a more minimal procedure.

Procedure;

1. Under local anesthesia, the patient is offered a comfortable and painless experience.
2. Mild swelling and sensitivity are normal after the procedure; it is controlled with prescribed medications.
3. A 4-6 month recovery period may be required for bone formation to be completed.
4. Implant treatment can then be safely applied.
